Lessons and Studio Schedule
Welcome to the Low-C Bass Studio, the private teaching studio of bassist Mark Stefaniw.
I am a full-time free-lance musician, and am principal bassist with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011.
I coach bass sectionals and chamber music at various levels including at DSA, MSU, JeffCo, DPSK.
I give lessons on double bass, as well as fretted and fretless electric basses, in all styles including bowed orchestral and solo, jazz, bluegrass, folk, rock/country, and funk/slap.
For jazz studies, my unique approach uses jazz standards and focuses on melody, with just enough jazz theory appropriate for the student to create effective bass lines.
My premier studio location is in central Evergreen, and is fully equipped with all the tools needed for teaching and A/V recording. I also give lessons from two other locations (see below) in leased spaces carefully selected for easy, and safe, double bass logistics.
I am a high-quality, low-volume teacher, and am not interested in running my studio as if it were a factory. Although I play other instruments well enough to teach, I focus on only teaching the bass because that is what I do best (vitae).
"Mark, I am working with one of your students, [JP], at CU summer jazz camp and am very impressed with the work you've done with him." - Eduardo "Bijoux" Barbosa.
"Mark, Thank you for helping me achieve my musical goals. It has been a joy learning from you." - JN, a former student.
About my students:
"Mark, I really do appreciate your [substituting for me]. My principal told me that he watched you work [with my orchestra] for about 20 minutes, and he hasn't stopped raving about you since then." - Mr. H, Instrumental Music Director, Conifer High School.
As of February/2014, I have eleven thriving students, and have total capacity for up to 15 students.
My students range from first graders on 1/10 sized basses, to middle and high schoolers gunning for 1st chair at home or
a higher position in all-county, city-wide, or all-state orchestra and jazz,
to advanced high school students preparing for conservatory, to the adult hobbyists and semi-professionals.
From Bach to Bottesini, rock to reggae, old grass to new grass, and jazz studies, my adaptive teaching style creates a custom lesson plan for you to achieve your musicial goals.
